Need some interesting summer reading?
 
Some of our DMS Program Challenge students have published two volumes that could make for some entertaining beach or pool reading this summer. Each volume is student-produced and contains original works written and edited by the students.
 
Eighth graders created The Anatomy of Imagination, a collection of short stories, poems and anecdotes on a variety of subjects. Ruthie Harrison coined the title and suggested the chapter organization. One of her pieces is excerpted on the back cover. Dax Willette and Caleb Longenecker created the cover art. Kristin Martin penned the opening poem – a beautifully sad piece entitled “A Long Lost Friend of Mine.” This is particularly fitting seeing that all proceeds from the sale of this volume go to the Laura Anschutz Memorial Fund. The cost of this 134-page paperback is $10.99, but it is currently part of the Lulu summer sale. Right now you can order it at 25% off for $9.89. Seventh graders created  Every Picture Tells a Story: Tales of Imagination Inspired by the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division Archives. This collection contains short stories created in response to historical photographs. One of  Laney Norton’s pieces is excerpted on the back cover; it is also the opening piece in the collection. The cost of this 78-page hardcover book is $21.99, but it is currently 25% off, making the final cost $16.49. By request of the authors, proceeds from this book benefit the fine arts program here at Davis Middle School.
